Terms of Service
Membership at a glance
- Quick meals are free. Hosting and Meal Prep are for members (your first plan is on us).
- Membership renews automatically every month or year until you cancel.
- A 3-day free trial needs a card. You are charged on day 4 unless you cancel before the trial ends. One trial per customer.
- Cancel anytime in Profile → Membership. You keep access until the end of the period you paid for.
1. Agreement
These Terms are an agreement between you and The Basic Group LLC ("we", "us") for your use of The Basic Host at thebasic.host (the "Service"). By using the Service you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
2. Your account
You sign in with your Google account. You must be at least 13 to use the Service, and at least 18 (or have a parent or guardian's consent) to buy a membership. You are responsible for activity on your account and for keeping your Google account secure.
3. The Service
Chef plans meals, menus, meal preps, recipes, grocery lists and cooking timelines from the preferences you share. Quick meals are free. Hosting and Meal Prep plans are for members; new accounts get their first plan free. We may add, change or remove features over time.
4. Memberships, billing and automatic renewal
- Plans and price. Membership is offered monthly or yearly at the price shown before you check out (currently $7 a month or $60 a year in US dollars, plus any applicable tax). Founding host and promotional discounts apply as described at checkout.
- Automatic renewal. Your membership renews automatically at the end of each billing period, and your payment method is charged the then-current price, until you cancel.
- Payments. Payments are processed by Stripe. You authorize us, through Stripe, to charge your payment method for each renewal. If a payment fails we may retry it, and we may pause member features until it succeeds.
- Price changes. If the price changes, we will tell you in advance, and the new price applies from your next renewal. You can cancel before then.
5. Free trial
- Where offered, a free trial lasts 3 days and requires a valid payment method at sign-up.
- Unless you cancel before the trial ends, your membership begins and your payment method is charged on day 4 at the plan price you chose, including any discount shown at checkout. It then renews automatically as described above.
- Cancel during the trial in Profile → Membership and you will not be charged.
- Free trials are limited to one per customer. If you have had a membership or trial before, checkout will show the regular price instead.
6. Cancelling
You can cancel anytime, online, in Profile → Membership (this opens our secure Stripe billing portal). Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. You keep member access until then and are not charged again. Your saved menus and preps stay in your account.
7. Refunds
Payments are non-refundable, and we do not give refunds or credits for partial billing periods. If you think you were charged in error, email support@thebasic-group.com within 7 days of the charge and we will review it. Nothing in these Terms limits any refund rights you have under applicable law.
8. Food, allergies and safety
Recipes, menus and guidance from the Service are suggestions for home cooks, not professional, medical or nutritional advice. You are responsible for checking ingredients and labels for allergens and dietary needs, for safe food handling and storage, and for cooking food to safe temperatures. Always check product labels and use your own judgment, especially when cooking for guests with allergies. Grocery quantities and prices are estimates.
9. Acceptable use
Please do not misuse the Service: no attempts to bypass memberships or limits, overload or probe our systems, scrape content at scale, resell the Service, or use it for anything unlawful. We may suspend or close accounts that do.
10. Content
You keep ownership of what you enter. You give us permission to use it to run and improve the Service for you. Plans created for you are yours to use for personal, non-commercial cooking and hosting. Commercial or catering use requires written permission from The Basic Group LLC. The Service, its design, text, brand and the Chef experience belong to us and are protected by law.
11. Third-party services
Some features link to services we do not control, such as Instacart, Stripe and Google. Their own terms and privacy policies apply when you use them.
12. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not promise the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
13. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, and our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
14. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Miami-Dade County, Florida, unless the law where you live requires otherwise.
15. Changes
We may update these Terms. If we make material changes we will update the date above and let you know on the site or by email. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept them.
