Privacy Policy
The short version
- We collect what we need to plan your cooking: your Google name and email, your Kitchen profile and the plans you save.
- Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
- We do not sell your personal information.
- You can delete your account from your Profile at any time.
Who we are
The Basic Host (thebasic.host) is operated by The Basic Group LLC, a Florida limited liability company ("we", "us"). You can reach us at support@thebasic-group.com.
What we collect
- Account details. When you sign in with Google we receive your name, email address and profile photo from Google. We do not receive your Google password.
- Your Kitchen profile. Who you cook for, dietary needs and allergies, cuisines, skill, equipment and the other preferences you choose to share, so Chef can plan around them. Allergy and dietary information can be sensitive; you decide what to enter and can change or remove it at any time.
- What you make and save. Menus, meal preps, recipes, grocery lists, pantry items, reviews and journal entries you create or save.
- What you type to Chef. Requests, cravings and menus you paste in, so we can produce your plan.
- Membership details. Stripe processes your payment. We receive your membership status, plan, billing dates and the brand and last four digits of your card, not the full card number.
- Usage information. Basic events such as pages viewed and features used, plus standard technical data (browser, device type, approximate location from IP address), to keep the service working and improve it.
How we use it
- To provide the service: sign you in, build and save your plans, and remember your preferences.
- To run memberships, free trials and billing, including one free trial per customer.
- To keep the service secure, prevent abuse and fix problems.
- To understand which features help people cook, and to improve them.
- To contact you about your account or membership. We only send account and billing emails. If we ever add marketing emails, they will be opt-in and every one will include an unsubscribe link.
Who we share it with
We share information only with service providers that help us run The Basic Host, under their own privacy and security commitments, and only as needed for that purpose:
- Supabase: account sign-in and database hosting.
- Google: sign-in with your Google account; web fonts.
- Stripe: payments, subscriptions and the billing portal.
- Vercel: website hosting.
- Menu and recipe services: trusted third-party service providers that help generate menus, recipes and grocery lists, under agreements that limit their use of your data.
- Instacart: only when you tap "Shop on Instacart", we send the grocery items on your list to create your Instacart cart.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights or the safety of others, or as part of a business transfer such as a merger or sale. We do not sell your personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
How long we keep it
We keep your account information while your account is active. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete your profile and saved content within 30 days. Billing records (for example, payment and tax records held by Stripe) are kept as required by law, and backups roll off within 30 days.
Your choices and rights
- Edit your Kitchen profile at any time on your Profile page.
- Delete your account from Profile → Delete account, or ask us to do it.
- Access or correct your information by contacting us.
- Depending on where you live (for example, California), you may have additional rights to know, access, correct or delete personal information, and not to be discriminated against for using them. Contact us to make a request; we will verify it is you before acting on it.
Cookies and local storage
We use your browser's local storage and similar technology to keep you signed in, remember your choices (such as a founding host offer) and measure basic usage. We do not use third-party advertising cookies or advertising pixels, and we do not sell your personal data.
Children
The Basic Host is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. You must be 13 or older to use the site, and 18 or older (or have a parent or guardian's consent) to buy a membership. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We use reasonable safeguards, including encrypted connections and access controls on our database. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date above, and for significant changes we will let you know on the site or by email.
